You need to be an action man like BEAR GRYLLS to be a Scout Leader…. RIGHT?

WHAT A LOAD OF WOGGLE!!!!

But this is still a common misconception amongst those not connected to the Scout association, it’s all middle-aged men in shorts tying knots and singing ging-gang-goolie. I cannot think of anything further from the truth, we are a forward thinking and modern Scout group. Today’s Scouting you will have the chance to learn new skills, rediscover adventure, make new friends, experience something different and the opportunity to challenge yourself.

Q: What are the reasons people volunteer?

There are a number of benefits you can gain from volunteering. Spending time with your child, learning new skills and contributing to your local community are just a few of the reasons why our Current Leaders choose to spend some of their time in Scouting.

Q: What sort of people volunteer to be leaders and assistants?

We have a wide and diverse team that bring different skillsets to the group, we have company directors, mechanics, office workers, police officers, teachers, doctors, nurses, bankers, catering and bar staff, warehouse workers, tradesmen & stay at home parents to name just a few occupations. They all bring such a different viewpoint to the group and its this attitude that makes us such a dynamic and over subscribed Scout Group in the area.

Q: Are there any restrictions?

As long as you are over 18 years of age, you can help out. There is no upper age limit for adult volunteers. No matter what your skillset, job or ability we are fully inclusive.Whether you can help on a regular or occasional basis we are flexible to fit with whatever commitment you can offer. Simply let us know your availability and how you would like to help and we will match this to a role within our group.

Q: Will I have to wear a uniform?

We are a uniformed organisation and our primary section leaders will be in uniform. As a general team member it is not absolutely necessary, a number of our leaders just wear either a polo shirt or necker.

Q – Will I have to complete loads of training and checks?
All our Adults in Scouting are checked through the Government DBS system, you will also have to undergo a few hours training in child protection and safeguarding. However you will always be with more experienced leaders, not chucked in on your own.

Q: Where can I find out more?

If you’re still here and reading this far down, it seems you’re already showing a significant interest in joining us. We were all in your position once, on the outside looking in. We all have busy family lives, jobs and understand the demands on modern life.

So if you would like more information please contact Don our Group Scout Leader for a no obligation chat on email [email protected] or phone 07936 373587.
